Great Cafe and bakery. I had the mushroom risotto. It's always my measuring stick when it comes to a new cafe/restaurant I visit. It is one of those dishes that showcase the ability of the chef. Visit this Cafe and order it!
Absolutely delightful. I had the club chicken focaccia and my husband had the metro cheeseburger. They were delicious and the house made bread was next level. We followed that with a caramel and hazelnut eclair and honey cake to share. The staff were super friendly and bubbly. The cafe/bakery was very clean and comfortable, there is beautiful art everywhere and is very spacious. I’ll definitely be back to try their pizzas next. Yummo!!

A day trip to Mt. Gambier, saw us eating lunch at the Metro Bakery & Cafe. Very popular with tourists & locals alike. The atmosphere was easy & relaxed. Patrons could sit in booths or at tables. The staff appeared happy to serve, chat, & even offered to take our photo. An offer we accepted. On choosing our dish, the order was placed at the counter, & paid at the time of ordering. Cash is willingly accepted, & there is no surcharge payable. A surcharge applies to cards. Prices are reasonable. The meals arrived piping hot, & promptly. Our party ordered the Mustard chicken, wedges & broccoli, & the Greek prawn, vegetable, bowl. Both were delicious. This Cafe is easily accessible. No steps, or stairs. We parked in a free, two hour, on street parking spot. Not too difficult to find on a Tuesday, at noon.
I enjoyed a great breakfast here. Coffee is the local Top 1, and the service is very good.
The staff at Metro are amazing. So friendly, so welcoming. We've eaten here twice. The first day we arrived right before the kitchen closed. Our waitress let us know that we'd need to order quickly, and she'd tell the kitchen one more order before they closed. The food was magnificent, hence the second visit. We couldn't recommend coming here enough. Thanks to the chefs and the staff. Absolutely brilliant place to come on our holiday.
The loveliest staff, they were so kind and welcoming. The food came out so quick and delicious. A big highlight was the bread, I'm so used to hard sourdough at cafes/brunch spots, this place used the most fresh and soft focaccia to serve breakfast on.
First things first - I think this place has the BEST group of staff I have ever interacted with. Entertaining a big group at a busy venue is not something many places do well and this place has set the bar truly very high. Right from ordering to asking questions about the menu - the team is more than happy to help. We had asked for some adjustments, i.e. removing non vego ingredients from some dishes and those requests were very politely accommodated. Because of a last minute issue, one of our group members had to leave for a slight bit and we bothered the team to reheat their food. They even did that! Great coffees and cake selection. The cakes include vegan treats too. After a lunch, we went back for brunch to the place the next day as we wanted to try everything remaining on the menu lol. The entry to the restaurant is full of great artwork hung along the passage and is an absolute delight to look at. The art done on the garden section is absolutely wonderful too! We had the piadina, pizza, one of the pastas, greek style roasted potatoes, eggs on toast, trio of dips, coffees, cakes.
Delicious food! I tried the mustard chicken and the peperonata arancini—both were outstanding. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss their cakes; I had the best carrot cake here, hands down. My only note is that the mustard chicken portion was a little small for the price.

The food was delicious, with a variety of options that catered to all tastes. I particularly enjoyed their pastries, which were fresh and flavorful. The coffee was equally impressive—rich and perfectly brewed, making it a perfect complement to our meal. Overall, if you’re looking for a cozy spot with amazing service, great food, and fantastic coffee, Metro Bakery is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
